Julia
Lohmann
Julia studied Graphic Design at the Surrey Institute
of Art & Design. After winning the D&AD
student award for product development she crossed
disciplines to complete a Master’s Degree
in Design Products at the Royal College of Art.
Julia graduated in 2004. Her award-winning work
explores the threshold between animal and material,
probing the relationship between humans and the
creatures that sustain us. Julia finds new applications
for otherwise undervalued materials. Together
with RCA Communication Art and Design graduate
Gero Grundmann, Julia founded the South London
design office studio bec in 2004.
She also works as a travel photographer and sessional
tutor in Graphic Design at the Surrey Institute
of Art & Design.
